Halfway There !!!!!

Well, as of last Wednesday, I am officially halfway through with chemo..... Whoo Hooo.  I am completely through with the Cytoxin and Adriamycin (the red devil) drugs.  Now I will be receiving Taxol every other week for 4 treatments.  I should be done the end of April.  I am counting down the days.  This last treatment has been the best so far.  I really haven't had any nausea, just tired.  I pray the next drug goes as well.

I received the results of my genetic testing.  Of coarse I couldn't be normal and just be negative or positive.  No, I have to get some crazy results "Genetic Variant of Uncertain Significance".  It comes with a letter saying there is something wrong with your DNA, we're just not sure exactly what.  The letter states they may want to test family members, "free of charge", to do further studies.  The results really don't have any bearing on me, since I've already had a double mastectomy but are invaluable to my family members.  Interesting, we'll see what happens.

We survived the snow storms of the century.  I missed 10 days of school because of them, we won't be out of school until mid June at this rate, ugh.  Bryan got me to each chemo treatment, thank goodness.  The storms fell perfectly so as not to interfere with my chemo treatments, I was worried that my schedule would be thrown off.  Now that it's warmer, we have actually been walking after work.  I'm trying to build up my strength and stamina.  It felt so good to be outside in the sunshine and out of this house, I was going stir crazy.

Hope this finds you well and until next time, love to all.

  1. Connie, I was SO happy to see that you updated. I was to the point of pestering you, just to make sure you were okay. If all goes as planned, I will be at the halfway point this Friday -- kind of one of those good thing/bad things. SO.. you are being taken off of Cytoxin and Adriamycin?! Those are two of the drugs I'm getting as well. I can only pray and hope that will be my fate. It's difficult to work when you're fatigued. I'll bet being able to get out and walk helps break up the day for you. Hasn't this weather been a Godsend? Wish I could walk a bit during my work day but my job (court reporter) is not designed to have scheduled breaks or lunches. Some days we go basically without either just to get through at a normal hour. -Megan-

  2. I agree with Megan --- I wanted to pester you, too! So glad that you are doing ok. There was no way I could have EVER worked during my chemo. I could hardly walk and make it to the bathroom!!!! I did have the Cytoxin, but not the other. I had a mix of Cytoxin and Taxotere every three weeks for 6 treatments. I'll be praying that the next "mix" for you will be ok and that you'll reach April really fast! So good to hear from you again!

  3. Congratulations on your halfway mark! We missed you Saturday night, but sure hope you enjoyed that grandbaby!

  4. It's really good to see you post! I checked up on you with your Mom on Sunday, she said you had been up for a visit! I'm so glad you are now past the half way mark, and I will be praying for your strength and endurance...

  5. It's been a while since you posted, and I'm praying everything is still going well. I know how the chemo can be up and down from one day to the next, so I'm praying like Nana Jul that you will be strengthened and and will endure through all this! Waiting to hear. . . .
